Hellboy' unleashes apocalyptic trailer with monsters and blood aplenty
1 mrt 07:35 - Well, looks like some kind of apocalypse is here in the latest look at the forthcoming Hellboy film starring Stranger Things' David Harbour. Set to a cover of Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water," the trailer offers up a pretty hectic look at the Dark Horse Comics-based film, with more than a few monsters for our pal to take care of.  Plus, there's some kind of sexy blood shower, who knows? Directed by Neil Marshall and starring Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Penelope Mitchell, and Daniel Dae Kim, the film sees our main dude Hellboy attempting to thwart a powerful fifth century sorceress (Jovovich) with plans to y'know, destroy humankind. Classic. Read more...More about Trailers, David Harbour, Hellboy, Entertainment, and Comic Culture

Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution' is a CGI remake of the first Pokémon film
1 mrt 06:36 - You too may have fond memories of Pokémon: The First Movie, and because it is 2019, the beloved film is getting a remake. Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution, as it'll be called when it releases in Japanese cinemas on Jul. 7, is a CGI remake of the film, which dropped its first teaser on Friday. There is no release date for Western audiences just yet, so you'll have to hold tight. It's of course unrelated to the Ryan Reynolds-voiced Detective Pikachu, which is set for release on May 10. But it's good timing. Read more... More about Entertainment, Film, Movies, Pokemon, and Entertainment

Was John Mulaney's neighbor a cannibal? Pete Davidson and Jimmy Fallon try to guess.
1 mrt 06:34 - Was John Mulaney's neighbor arrested by the FBI for cannibalism? Did Pete Davidson go to Jamaica with Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels over New Year's? See if you can guess what's real and made-up, as the two comedians joined Jimmy Fallon for a game of "True Confessions" on The Tonight Show Thursday night.  The game works by each person revealing a random story, to which the others must guess whether it's true or fake. But first, they must interrogate each other, and with these three, of course it's hilarious. Read more... Jimmy Fallon and Weezer cover 'Take on Me' with classroom instruments
1 mrt 05:05 - Ed Sheeran's done it. So has Shawn Mendes, Metallica, and the Backstreet Boys. Now, Jimmy Fallon's handed the banana shakers to Weezer. For one of The Tonight Show's most beloved recurring segments, Weezer joined Fallon and The Roots to perform a cover of A-ha's classic "Take on Me" using classroom instruments.  We're talking mini tambourines, wood blocks, kazoos — the works, all with that iconic animated overlay from A-ha's music video. And huge respect for frontman Rivers Cuomo in particular, who hits those impossible high notes. It's not the only fun performance we've seen from Weezer this week, with the group joining Fallon's barbershop quartet, The Ragtime Gals, for a rendition of their own classic track, "Buddy Holly." Jessica Chastain just gleefully teased a scene from 'It: Chapter Two' as the bloodiest in horror history
28 feb 16:36 - "I think I'm gonna be in trouble, but I'm gonna do it."  In a Wednesday night interview on The Tonight Show, Jessica Chastain shared a possible spoiler from her upcoming film It: Chapter Two with host Jimmy Kimmel. Describing her exhausting and terrifying experiences filming, Chastain beamed over the following genre factoid.  "In the movie, there's a scene that someone said on-set that it's the most blood that's ever been in a horror film, in a scene," she teased. Depending on what movie you consider to be the current bloodiest scene record holder (there's a lot of debate surrounding which films qualify), It: Chapter Two would likely have to feature upwards of 100 gallons of fake blood to clinch the title. That's a tough task, but it sure does sound like it happened. Read more...More about Jessica Chastain, Stephen King, Pennywise, It Chapter 2, and Entertainment

Playing 'Judgment' made me finally jump into 'Yakuza' games
28 feb 15:00 - Playing Judgment made me regret never playing any of the Yakuza games for the past decade. Judgment centers around Takayuki Yagami, a private detective and former lawyer who winds up investigating a series of murders with possible ties to the Yakuza. It’s a great setup that’s rife with intrigue and drama, and the first two hours I got to play at a preview event got me hooked. I was so hooked on everything in Judgment that I bought a copy of Yakuza 0, which is made by the same developer (Sega) and a pretty similar style of game. I haven’t been this excited to play a game in a while. SEE ALSO: 'Metro Exodus' muddies up its formula with an empty open world Read more...More about Sega, Judgment, Entertainment, and Gaming

Devotion' is a terrifying journey into the dark heart of a wounded family
28 feb 14:42 - Note: Devotion is not currently available for sale on Steam, and it's not clear when it will be back. The game came out on Feb. 19, but descended into controversy shortly after launch. The particulars of what happened are too complex to summarize in this brief note, but you can (and should) read more about it right here. What would you do for your family, your loved ones? How far would you go? How far would it take you? Those are the central questions explored in Red Candle Games' Devotion, though it's a tough game to pin down. By all appearances, this is a story-driven horror story played from a first-person perspective. That's mostly accurate, but it also undersells what lies within. The New York jazz band bringing back cartoon music
28 feb 12:59 - The day Joel Pierson, also known as the ‘piano doctor,’ moved to New York in 2014 was the day his wife told him she was pregnant (Yipe!). Pierson, a jazz musician, who was out of work and out of the music scene, resorted to a list of “harebrained ideas” he had been carefully compiling, for a fresh musical start. It was that or a different career altogether.“As I was running through the list, I was like, ‘a jazz band playing cartoon music, who’s done that,’” Pierson told me as we sat around a secluded (vewy, vewy quiet) table at the New York Hilton Midtown, where his band, The Queen’s Cartoonists, were about to showcase some of their repertoire – ranging from renditions of early Popeye and Looney Tunes to cult classics like Bambi Meets Godzilla – at an Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) conference. Lady Gaga talks about *that* Oscars performance with Bradley Cooper
28 feb 07:29 - Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's utterly breathtaking performance of "Shallow" at the Oscars really had the internet talking, but as Gaga reiterated on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, it is very much an act. "Quite frankly, social media is the toilet of the internet. What it has done to pop culture is abysmal," Gaga told the show (from 3:15). "People saw love, and guess what, that's what we wanted you to see. This is a love song, 'Shallow.' The movie, A Star Is Born, is a love story." Gaga added they both had worked on the performance all week, and Cooper as director made decisions like making sure the audience was lit throughout the song, among other details that helped with the illusion of love. Metal had an amazing year and these are the albums to prove it
9 dec 21:30 - Metal has been having a transcendent year. Such a transcendent year, in fact, that I feel comfortable calling 2018 the Year of Extreme Metal — a year in which bands across the extreme metal spectrum have been putting out some of their best, most interesting, and intricate albums of all time. This was the year that bands like Skeletonwitch and Yob dug deep, looked inward, and perfected their artistry within the genre to create intense, visceral masterpieces. Other bands like Nekrogoblikon and Between the Buried and Me looked outward and pushed extreme metal into new, refreshing directions while holding true to that unmistakable metal spirit. NASA gives the Avengers some advice for helping Tony Stark
9 dec 21:21 - The last time we saw Tony Stark, he was adrift in space in the Avengers: Endgame trailer, and it didn't look like survival was likely. Elf on the Shelf witnesses puberty firsthand in hilarious 'SNL' sketch
9 dec 16:39 - Elf on the Shelf is always keeping its eyes on kids to see if they're being naughty or nice around Christmas, and unfortunately that doesn't stop when kids hit puberty. Scrabby the elf, played by host Jason Momoa, has been watching Marshall for 13 years, and now he wants a new kid to watch over because Marshall has learned something new he can do with his body, a "solo activity," according to Scrabby. It's not exactly a naughty or nice activity. The worst part is, Scrabby can't physically look away — Elves on Shelves don't even blink — and Marshall sometimes looks at Scrabby during the act. Saturday Night Live' created Big Boy appliances for stay-at-home husbands
9 dec 16:11 - For some stay-at-home husbands, regular old dishwashers, laundry machines, and vacuums just aren't manly enough. So Saturday Night Light came up with a new line of products from GE called Big Boy Appliances. There's a long history of dumb, overly "masculine" products designed for men, like Dr. Pepper Ten, and SNL applied that logic to standard home appliances, making them bigger, heavier, and gas-powered. Just what we're told men love. Read more... More about Television, Saturday Night Live, Jason Momoa, Entertainment, and Movies Tv Shows

Fake 'SNL' TV show from the 'Empire' team asks: What if Donald Trump was black?
9 dec 16:08 - Them Trumps is a Saturday Night Live-conceived TV series from the producers of Empire. (No, it's not real, it's just a fake ad that aired during the latest SNL episode.) This alternate universe take on the 45th U.S. president imagines a different Trump presidency, one in which the entire First Family is black. Same crimes being committed, but a different standard in the way they're policedThem Trumps is going to be a short-lived show. Saturday Night Live' cold open checks in on the Trump kids and Robert Mueller

Don Jr. insists there's nothing to be scared of, but when he leaves the room to get some (more) bad news from his lawyer, Eric finds himself face-to-face with the scariest demon of all if you're a Trump: Special Counsel Robert Mueller (Robert De Niro). James Gunn's post-'Guardians of the Galaxy' mystery movie is finally revealed
8 dec 21:49 - Before James Gunn brought into the world his entertaining vision of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy — and was unceremoniously dumped by Disney following a bad faith character assassination — he made horror movies. Good, messed up horror movies like Slither. In the time since his Disney separation, noisy speculation has been building around Brightburn, a Sony Pictures release that reunites Gunn with Slither star Elizabeth Banks. But what is it? Many have guessed that Brightburn is just a codename, and Gunn has been working on a video game adaptation. Those people were wrong. Telltale's The Walking Dead' will finish its final season, and here's a trailer to prove it
8 dec 21:00 - Telltale Games the studio might be finished, but Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season is getting its final chapters. Even after The Walking Dead comic publisher and former Telltale partner Skybound confirmed plans to finish out the series' final season (and then confirmed them again), there was reason to be skeptical. Just because so many forces had already aligned to put a period on the Telltale Games story. But it's real. It's happening. 10 pop culture moments in 2018 that made us go 'NOPE

Moments so joyful you wanted to arrest everyone involved. This is a valid emotional response, by the way – like wanting to eat a cute baby or cry with joy. New 'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate' fighters ranked by how much they kicked my ass
7 dec 19:05 - There are 11 brand new fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and almost all of them kicked my ass. As I spent dozens of hours playing Ultimate in the last week, I unlocked tons of new fighters, including all of the new additions to the game from Chrom to Simon. Some of them gave me a really hard time in our one-on-one duels, and some of them infuriated me as they blasted my fighters off the stage time and time again. SEE ALSO: 'Super Smash Bros. But a surprising number of newcomers forced me into a second round. Read more...More about Nintendo, Nintendo Switch, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Entertainment, and Gaming

Netflix's 'Dumplin' delivers drag, Dolly, and the next Peter Kavinsky
7 dec 14:00 - Netflix's Dumplin' isn't built on rhinestones and stilettos. Yes, the small town comedic drama comes with plenty of that as-advertised pageant glam, but it finds crucial footing in a simple maxim from the Queen of Country: "Figure out who you are and do it on purpose." Originally told in Julie Murphy's YA novel of the same name, the story of Willowdean Dickson and her protest in heels is one worth gushing over. Its self-acceptance narrative doesn't tread new territory, but instead weaves numerous beloved pastimes into a coat of many colors fit for Dolly herself.  Starring Danielle Macdonald and Jennifer Aniston, with massive support from an original Parton soundtrack and a number of talented drag performers, Dumplin' explores how we treat "plus-size" and otherwise othered women in a world increasingly focused on the superficial. Although the film's second act begins to border on preachy cliché, its glittery-yet-goofy approach to presenting a difficult topic to an adolescent audience manages to stay both entertaining and enlightening. Red Dead Redemption 2' fails to justify its own excessive existence
7 dec 13:00 - This article contains spoilers for the entirety of Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 Throughout the vast, sprawling, seemingly never-ending experience of Red Dead Redemption 2, I found myself asking the same question over and over again: Do I even want any of this? Do I need my horse's dynamic testicle physics and shitting patterns? Does having to press R2 multiple times to drink a cup of coffee really add to my immersion in the world? What in god's name do mercilessly unforgiving collision physics contribute, aside from interruptions to story moments and YouTube fail compilations? How could details like oily and muddy water, custom mounting animations, and farting ever justify the cost of Rockstar Games employees' 100-hour work weeks?
