Metal had an amazing year and these are the albums to prove it
9 dec 21:30 - Metal has been having a transcendent year. Such a transcendent year, in fact, that I feel comfortable calling 2018 the Year of Extreme Metal — a year in which bands across the extreme metal spectrum have been putting out some of their best, most interesting, and intricate albums of all time. This was the year that bands like Skeletonwitch and Yob dug deep, looked inward, and perfected their artistry within the genre to create intense, visceral masterpieces. Other bands like Nekrogoblikon and Between the Buried and Me looked outward and pushed extreme metal into new, refreshing directions while holding true to that unmistakable metal spirit. NASA gives the Avengers some advice for helping Tony Stark
9 dec 21:21 - The last time we saw Tony Stark, he was adrift in space in the Avengers: Endgame trailer, and it didn't look like survival was likely. Luckily, the folks at NASA heard about Iron Man's plight and had some advice to offer for the rest of the Avengers who were still alive on Earth. Hey @Marvel, we heard about Tony Stark. As we know, the first thing you should do is listen in mission control for “@Avengers, we have a problem.” But if he can’t communicate, then we recommend ground teams use all resources to scan the skies for your missing man pic.twitter.com/zavXrsPljq — NASA (@NASA) December 9, 2018 Read more... Elf on the Shelf witnesses puberty firsthand in hilarious 'SNL' sketch
9 dec 16:39 - Elf on the Shelf is always keeping its eyes on kids to see if they're being naughty or nice around Christmas, and unfortunately that doesn't stop when kids hit puberty. Scrabby the elf, played by host Jason Momoa, has been watching Marshall for 13 years, and now he wants a new kid to watch over because Marshall has learned something new he can do with his body, a "solo activity," according to Scrabby. It's not exactly a naughty or nice activity. The worst part is, Scrabby can't physically look away — Elves on Shelves don't even blink — and Marshall sometimes looks at Scrabby during the act. Saturday Night Live' created Big Boy appliances for stay-at-home husbands
9 dec 16:11 - For some stay-at-home husbands, regular old dishwashers, laundry machines, and vacuums just aren't manly enough. So Saturday Night Light came up with a new line of products from GE called Big Boy Appliances. There's a long history of dumb, overly "masculine" products designed for men, like Dr. Pepper Ten, and SNL applied that logic to standard home appliances, making them bigger, heavier, and gas-powered. Just what we're told men love. Read more... More about Television, Saturday Night Live, Jason Momoa, Entertainment, and Movies Tv Shows

Fake 'SNL' TV show from the 'Empire' team asks: What if Donald Trump was black?
9 dec 16:08 - Them Trumps is a Saturday Night Live-conceived TV series from the producers of Empire. (No, it's not real, it's just a fake ad that aired during the latest SNL episode.) This alternate universe take on the 45th U.S. president imagines a different Trump presidency, one in which the entire First Family is black. Same crimes being committed, but a different standard in the way they're policedThem Trumps is going to be a short-lived show. It's longtime SNL cast member Kenan Thompson who makes the whole schtick work. Maybe this is a wake-up call for the show to finally ditch Alec Baldwin and hand the Trump impressions over to Thompson. SNL' revives your favorite dead 'Game of Thrones' characters in Khal Drogo's Ghost Dojo
9 dec 15:41 - Welcome to Khal Drogo's Ghost Dojo, where all your favorite Game of Thrones characters who have been killed have a chance to get in a final word. This Saturday Night Live sketch is certainly a weird one, starring host Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo and Kenan Thompson as one of his bloodriders. The two interview such characters as Hodor (who turns out to not be a great conversationalist) and brings out Joffrey Baratheon and Olenna Tyrell who start slapping each other Jerry Springer Show-style. Saturday Night Live' cold open checks in on the Trump kids and Robert Mueller
9 dec 15:14 - Saturday Night Live's latest cold open took yet another trip to Trumpworld, focusing on the president's adult man-children, Eric and Donald Jr.  The Christmas-adjacent sketch sees Eric fearful of the bogeyman in his closet. Don Jr. insists there's nothing to be scared of, but when he leaves the room to get some (more) bad news from his lawyer, Eric finds himself face-to-face with the scariest demon of all if you're a Trump: Special Counsel Robert Mueller (Robert De Niro). Happy holidays! Here's hoping the annual gift-giving season brings the best present of all: an ignominious end for the worst and most incapable leader in U.S. history. Avengers: Endgame' trailer clocked 289 million views in 24 hours, says Disney
9 dec 00:09 - It's official: the Avengers: Endgame trailer is a hit. So says Marvel. The trailer picked up 289 million views in the first 24 hours after surfacing on Friday morning, the company said in a Saturday tweet. The follow-up to Marvel's 2018 ensemble superhero hit, Avengers: Infinity War, is set to hit theaters in April 2019, and Friday's trailer was everyone's first-ever look. James Gunn's post-'Guardians of the Galaxy' mystery movie is finally revealed
8 dec 21:49 - Before James Gunn brought into the world his entertaining vision of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy — and was unceremoniously dumped by Disney following a bad faith character assassination — he made horror movies. Good, messed up horror movies like Slither. In the time since his Disney separation, noisy speculation has been building around Brightburn, a Sony Pictures release that reunites Gunn with Slither star Elizabeth Banks. But what is it? Many have guessed that Brightburn is just a codename, and Gunn has been working on a video game adaptation. Those people were wrong. The first trailer for Brightburn is here, and it looks like Starman meets Species: creepy outer space kid found and raised by baby-obsessed husband-and-wife but he turns out to be some kind of death-dealing monster. Sign us the hell up. Read more...More about Entertainment, Film, James Gunn, Brightburn, and Entertainment

Telltale's The Walking Dead' will finish its final season, and here's a trailer to prove it
8 dec 21:00 - Telltale Games the studio might be finished, but Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season is getting its final chapters. Even after The Walking Dead comic publisher and former Telltale partner Skybound confirmed plans to finish out the series' final season (and then confirmed them again), there was reason to be skeptical. Just because so many forces had already aligned to put a period on the Telltale Games story. But it's real. It's happening. An appearance at the tail end of Saturday's Kinda Funny Games Showcase confirmed that a team of around 40 former Telltale members — the Still Not Bitten team, as they're appropriately called — is working to finish the game's final two episodes now in their former Telltale offices. The most obvious 'Avengers: Endgame' web address turns into a Deadpool troll
8 dec 17:50 - If you're looking for more info on Avengers: Endgame, the Infinity War follow-up that go its first trailer on Friday, you might think that pointing your browser at AvengersEndgame.com is the answer. Wrong. Typing "AvengersEndgame.com" into your address bar will take you to the official Fox Movies web portal for Once Upon a Deadpool, the family-friendly Deadpool 2 re-cut that uses the same "reading stories to a sick kid in bed" framing device as The Princess Bride (right down to Fred Savage!).  SEE ALSO: Everything you missed from the 'Avengers: Endgame' trailer There's still some question as to whether or not this is an intentional marketing ploy, however. It's definitely something you could see coming out of the Deadpool playbook. But the only figure to step forward and take credit so far is an anonymous Twitter user. 10 pop culture moments in 2018 that made us go 'NOPE
8 dec 11:00 - In 2018, the news and state of the world can pretty much be described as a constant state of NOPE. Trump tweeted? Nope. Another deadly shooting? Nope nope nope. The planet is dying? Wow, nope! It's difficult not to get bogged down by the deluge of bad or weird news, but there are moments of pop culture that have been so overwhelmingly good that they had us saying NOPE for different reasons.  We're talking things that were so cute you wanted to pass out. Moments so joyful you wanted to arrest everyone involved. This is a valid emotional response, by the way – like wanting to eat a cute baby or cry with joy. These pop culture moments, in no particular order, made us so happy that we verbally canceled them just to restore balance to the universe. Sorry!  Read more...More about Entertainment, Celebrities, Culture, End Of Year 2018, and End Of Year 2018

New 'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate' fighters ranked by how much they kicked my ass
7 dec 19:05 - There are 11 brand new fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and almost all of them kicked my ass. As I spent dozens of hours playing Ultimate in the last week, I unlocked tons of new fighters, including all of the new additions to the game from Chrom to Simon. Some of them gave me a really hard time in our one-on-one duels, and some of them infuriated me as they blasted my fighters off the stage time and time again. SEE ALSO: 'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate' is exceptional in every way Of course some of them were pretty easy. I am, after all, a lifelong Smash player and have the capacity to beat bots on a first attempt. The best video games of 2018
7 dec 17:01 - This is it. End of the road for 2018. Which games did you play to escape the neverending dumpster fire of our daily IRL circus? Which were your favorites? So many to choose from this time around. Blockbuster games are becoming more conscious of the space they occupy in pop culture, delivering an emotionally wider range of stories and experiences. This year, we've seen that even the biggest games can bring out tears as effectively as they elicit joy. That's in addition to gaming's ever-thriving indie landscape, which has delivered a treasure trove of new and unexpected ideas shaped by small teams into epic timesinks and thought-provoking oddities. In fact, one of those titles claimed our coveted #1 pick for Game of the Year in 2018. Read more...More about Entertainment, Gaming, End Of Year 2018, Entertainment, and Gaming

Netflix's 'Dumplin' delivers drag, Dolly, and the next Peter Kavinsky
7 dec 14:00 - Netflix's Dumplin' isn't built on rhinestones and stilettos. Yes, the small town comedic drama comes with plenty of that as-advertised pageant glam, but it finds crucial footing in a simple maxim from the Queen of Country: "Figure out who you are and do it on purpose." Originally told in Julie Murphy's YA novel of the same name, the story of Willowdean Dickson and her protest in heels is one worth gushing over. Its self-acceptance narrative doesn't tread new territory, but instead weaves numerous beloved pastimes into a coat of many colors fit for Dolly herself.  Starring Danielle Macdonald and Jennifer Aniston, with massive support from an original Parton soundtrack and a number of talented drag performers, Dumplin' explores how we treat "plus-size" and otherwise othered women in a world increasingly focused on the superficial. Although the film's second act begins to border on preachy cliché, its glittery-yet-goofy approach to presenting a difficult topic to an adolescent audience manages to stay both entertaining and enlightening. Looks like Léa Seydoux will return in the next James Bond movie
7 dec 13:06 - James Bond is both a top secret agent with a license to kill and a notorious womaniser.  But it appears Bond might be a one-woman man now. Red Dead Redemption 2' fails to justify its own excessive existence
7 dec 13:00 - This article contains spoilers for the entirety of Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 Throughout the vast, sprawling, seemingly never-ending experience of Red Dead Redemption 2, I found myself asking the same question over and over again: Do I even want any of this? Do I need my horse's dynamic testicle physics and shitting patterns? Does having to press R2 multiple times to drink a cup of coffee really add to my immersion in the world? What in god's name do mercilessly unforgiving collision physics contribute, aside from interruptions to story moments and YouTube fail compilations? How could details like oily and muddy water, custom mounting animations, and farting ever justify the cost of Rockstar Games employees' 100-hour work weeks? The 1 tiny, key detail in the new 'Game of Thrones' Season 8 teaser you may have missed
7 dec 12:25 - Warning: Contains potential spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 8. Yes, okay, it's only a 40-second teaser with no actual Season 8 footage. But frankly, the day I can't obsess over a 40-second teaser with no actual Season 8 footage is the day I no longer call myself a Game of Thrones fan. The teaser, which dropped on Wednesday evening, shows ice and fire spreading across a map. Midge of 'Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' is kinda rude (and that's a good thing)
7 dec 12:00 - While The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 is every bit as charming and effervescent as we've come to expect, the latest episodes make it impossible to deny what we suspected but ignored in Season 1: Midge Maisel is kind of rude. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, given our protagonist's aspirations in the male-dominated field of standup comedy. In 2018, women on TV (and in real life) are done apologizing and pretending to be perfect. Midge is no Claire Underwood or Serena Joy,  but when we extol her virtues, let us not pretend that to be demure and polite is among them. She's aggressive in ways to which the average viewer can actually relate. Read more...More about Entertainment, Television, Amazon Prime Video, Amy Sherman Palladino, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Know someone who loves wine? Get them this gadget.
7 dec 11:00 - When it comes to purchasing gifts for your friend who's always swishing and gurgling wine, you have to think outside the bottle. Why you should add 'About Time' to your holiday movie list
7 dec 11:00 - Each December, we bust out the holiday cheer, from obnoxious Christmas music to Love Actually on a loop. I’m all about this — I usually leave my tree up until my January birthday — but I start with a different movie: About Time. From Love Actually writer-director Richard Curtis, About Time is comparatively trimmed down, following the life of Tim (Domhnall Gleeson), the young son in a family where the men can travel through time. There are no other sci-fi frills (and probably some plot holes as a result, but who cares!), since as Tim’s father (Bill Nighy) notes, they can’t change anything outside their own lives.  Read more...More about Entertainment, Movies, Rachel Mcadams, Richard Curtis, and Domhnall Gleeson

Aquaman' star Jason Momoa challenges Jimmy Fallon to some casual trident throwing
7 dec 07:25 - It might seem foolish to challenge Jason Momoa, who plays Aquaman in the upcoming DC chapter, to a casual trident throwing challenge. But that didn't stop Jimmy Fallon. In the film, Aquaman is a master of the trident, and on The Tonight Show, Momoa absolutely nailed it, like he was casually playing darts in a friend's basement. Highly impressive. The target? Arch-villain Ocean Master, of course. Minus 20 points if you hit Nemo. Read more... More about The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Fallon, Jason Momoa, Aquaman, and The Tonight Show

BioWare's intense new 'Anthem' trailer finally dishes on story details
7 dec 04:03 - Initial hype for BioWare's answer to Destiny, the upcoming online multiplayer Anthem, was pretty tepid. It looked like every other cookie cutter never-ending co-op shooty game, a genre quickly becoming oversaturated. But now the newly released 2018 Game Awards trailer has revealed more about Anthem's story. And it's clear the studio behind Mass Effect is distinguishing its game by focusing on what they do best: telling engaging narratives. Kevin Hart released a truly awful statement about his homophobic tweets
7 dec 01:56 - We live in the golden age of bad non-apologies, but Kevin Hart's response to recent backlash over resurfaced homophobic jokes might take the cake. Ryan Reynolds is producing a horror story that started as a series on Reddit
6 dec 12:04 - In the age of the internet, you don't necessarily need a best-selling book series to land a film deal. Sometimes a collection of viral Reddit posts will do the job. SEE ALSO: 69 times Ryan Reynolds was hands down the funniest actor on Twitter On Wednesday, Variety broke the news that Ryan Reynolds will be producing The Patient Who Nearly Drove Me Out of Medicine — a horror story based on a series originally published by writer Jasper DeWitt on Reddit's r/nosleep sub.  Reynolds has since retweeted the story, and DeWitt has also posted about it. So thrilled to be working with @VancityReynolds on this! https://t.co/RgT1ztKZZD — Jasper DeWitt (@JasperDW) December 6, 2018 Read more... John Legend says he'll cover the 'Arthur' theme song after Chrissy Teigen's memes
6 dec 07:21 - John Legend sees your Arthur memes and raises you a theme song cover. Legend has long been expertly trolled by his wife Chrissy Teigen with memes comparing him to the main cartoon character from the TV show Arthur. The internet has followed suit. Chatting to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show on Wednesday, Legend said he wasn't across the show when the memes erupted, and that he learned the theme after it all. "One day I'm gonna cover that theme song," he told Fallon, then addressing Teigen's trolling antics. "[Chrissy Teigen] is always trolling me. She's my number one troll on Twitter." Read more... Black Mirror's darkest fake media, a complete guide
5 dec 23:35 - When the then-very-British Black Mirror was just starting to burst into America's consciousness via Netflix in 2015, plenty of people didn't like it. One critic who really hated the show went viral with a tweet that seemed to nail the M.O. of this high-tech scarefest. "Next on Black Mirror," he wrote, "what if phones, but too much."  Black Mirror writer and showrunner Charlie Brooker, a scathing TV critic himself, loved that snark so much he wrote the end of the episode "Playtest" specifically to fit it. (One of the reasons the anthology show has gone from strength to strength is Brooker likes to adopt what critics say and turn it up to 11: see also "San Junipero," given a California-like setting to tweak Brits who said the show was going "too American.")  Read more...More about Black Mirror, Entertainment, and Movies Tv Shows

Jason Momoa goes full action hero in 'SNL' promo
5 dec 20:55 - Jason Momoa is hosting the next episode of Saturday Night Live and things are already looking pretty promising based on this promo. Momoa, who plays Aquaman in the DC movie universe and previously played Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, doesn't look like he'll be shying away from his beefcake-y vibe on SNL.  He definitely looks like he'll be bringing some good energy to the show on Dec. 8. The 8 best returning TV shows of 2018
5 dec 18:31 - Finding something new to watch on TV is a fun, but sometimes exhausting endeavor.  Luckily, in today's cancel-happy entertainment environment there are still some great shows that come back and deliver more of the good stuff people already know and love. Here are a few of the best returning shows from 2018.  SEE ALSO: The 8 best new TV shows of 2018 8. Dear White People Image: Saeed Adyani/NetflixLike Atlanta, Dear White People used its second season to lean into the distinct sensibility of Winchester University and its searingly smart students. Each episode is a rich character study and the season as a whole took things even further, quietly unraveling an old mystery that will make old Winchester clash with new. The dialogue is sharper, the hyperbole grander, and though it’s still in a fictitious Ivy League bubble, the show mirrors America’s never-ending tussle with race, class, and gender with enviable expertise- Proma Khosla Read more...More about Best Tv Shows 2018, End Of Year 2018, Best Returning Tv 2018, Entertainment, and Movies Tv Shows

Disgraced NFL player Kareem Hunt will be cut from the 'Madden NFL 19' roster
5 dec 17:21 - It's game over for Kareem Hunt. The former star running back for the Kansas City Chiefs was cut from the team and (rightfully!) deemed an NFL pariah after video surfaced of Hunt assaulting a woman. Now, he's also banned from playing on Madden NFL 19's virtual field. SEE ALSO: 'Just Cause 4' gets lost in its own storm A spokesperson for EA Sports confirmed as much to TMZ, which originally broke the story of Hunt's behavior. "We are in the process of removing Kareem Hunt from the Madden NFL 19 roster, Madden Overdrive and Madden Ultimate Team," the rep said. It's an easy change to reflect in the game's official NFL rosters, which shift on a weekly basis as players move around in the league. But the Madden's Ultimate Team mode and the mobile game Madden Overdrive both are more about letting players build fantasy teams. Hunt will be replaced on those rosters with a generic player who has identical stats. Read more...More about Entertainment, Sports, Gaming, Madden Nfl 19, and Kareem Hunt

Fortnite Creative' brings custom chaos to everyone's favorite island
5 dec 16:28 - Fortnite Creative is coming Dec. 13 to spice things up in what has become the most popular game of 2018. Think of Fortnite Creative as a sort of level creator within Fortnite that allows players to use their imaginations and build interesting structures and new game modes to mess around in. In the trailer above, Epic Games shows off a boost-filled battle arena and a golf cart-based Death Race as two fun ways to use Creative. Battle Pass buyers can jump into the Creative island a week early (and invite their friends along with them), but Epic Games noted that the mode isn't quite complete and will be a little rough to start. Jake Gyllenhaal will suit up as Mysterio in the next Spider-Man movie
5 dec 21:18 - Jake Gyllenhaal, who once almost replaced Tobey Maguire in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2, is now going to face off against Tom Holland's friendly neighborhood wall-crawler. The Brokeback Mountain star will join the Sony side of Marvel's Cinematic Universe as the villain Mysterio. He'll appear in the upcoming sequel to 2016's Spider-Man: Homecoming. Gyllenhaal all but confirmed the news in a post on his shiny new Instagram account on Wednesday: View this post on Instagram I just realized I’m not playing Spider-Man. Handmaid’s Tale' showrunner wants to see the Commander's 'Nuremberg Trials
5 dec 15:59 - Now that the second season of The Handmaid's Tale is available on Blu-Ray, there's time to rewatch and consider what exactly the award-winning, prescient show means in today's cultural and political climate — and what further seasons might have to say about Gilead and the world.  To that end, Mashable spoke to showrunner Bruce Miller about June's journey, the capacity for hope, and what events he'd like to see in Gilead's future.  SEE ALSO: Breaking down everything that happened in that shocking 'Handmaid's Tale' Season 2 finale Mashable: Margaret Atwood and Elizabeth Moss have both spoken highly of you as a showrunner in adapting what is a very woman-centric story. How often do you find yourself deferring to the women in your writers' room when it comes to making decisions about characters and motivations? Did you find yourself in that position more often in Season 1 than in Season 2 because Season 2 was an "off book" season. Stephen King just tweeted 5 very exciting words about the 'IT' sequel
5 dec 11:13 - It's not often you find yourself eagerly awaiting a fresh glimpse of a nightmare-inducing clown, but here we are. It's now been well over a year since Andrés Muschietti's IT adaptation giggled its way into theatres, before going on to smash the previous record for highest-grossing U.S. box office horror movie. Since then, we've had some good — if slightly far-off sounding — news: IT Chapter Two will be coming to theatres on 6 Sept. 2019. SEE ALSO: Stephen King is letting these kids make a film adaption of his story for $1 Okay, so that may still be nine months away, but — judging by Stephen King's recent tweet — we may be due a clown-themed surprise earlier than expected.
